Dale Blasingame is a social journalism professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He received a master’s degree in New Media from Texas State in 2011 and an undergraduate degree in journalism in 1999.
Dale is part of the SJMC Digital Media faculty, and he teaches courses that introduce students to different aspects of how technology is changing journalism and media. Some of his classes include Advanced Social Media and Analytics; Drones and Sensors; Web Design and Publishing; Fundamentals of Digital and Online Media; Mobile Storytelling in the Park and Digital Entrepreneurship.
Before his time at Texas State, Dale worked in news for ten years. He won two Lone Star Emmy awards during his time in TV and was a newsroom leader in recognizing the advantages of social media. He’s a member of the Online News Association, Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
In his free time, Dale is an avid hiker and traveler. He recently visited all 95 state parks in one year and wrote for each issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine in 2016. His dog, Lucy, joins him on trips and loves to hike and climb rocks.
